Celebrities STOMP Out Bullying With Love Our Children USA
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaims October 5th BLUE SHIRT DAY
NEW YORK September 28 2009: Love Our Children USA announced that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is proclaiming October 5th BLUE SHIRT DAY to signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week, October 4th – 10th.
Love Our Children USA created National Blue Shirt Day on Monday, October 5th, where thousands of kids and adults will wear blue shirts as they make their way to school or to the office as a grassroots national movement to STOMP Out Bullying.
The organization launched the STOMP Out Bullying Campaign in October, 2008 and its new dedicated Web Site this past Monday. STOMP Out Bullying focuses its efforts to reduce Bullying and Cyberbullying, decrease school absenteeism and truancy, educate against homophobia and racism and deter violence in schools, playgrounds and communities across the country. To date over 53,000 have committed to STOMP Out Bullying on the site.
It’s not just our politicians who support STOMP Out Bullying an initiative of Love Our Children USA, but celebrities are out in full force to help.
Teen Celebrities Demi Lovato, JoJo and the latest children’s sensation The Oogieloves participate in the public service campaign which includes TV spots, videos, posters, brochures and wristbands. Additional celebrities such as Brittany Snow, Naturally 7 and others are slated to join the ongoing campaign created by the Geppetto Group.
In order to raise funds for bullying and cyberbullying prevention, education and peer mentoring in schools, Love Our Children USA is holding its Second Annual Celebrity STOMP Out Bullying Auction on CharityFolks from October 5th –16th.
This year’s celebrity contributors include: Elton John, Billy Joel, Bette Midler, Ellen Degeneres, Phil Collins, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Bryan Adams, Metallica, Guster, Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Bye Bye Birdie, Rock Of Ages, the NJ Nets and more.
“Kids who are intimidated, threatened, or harmed by bullies often experience low self-esteem and depression, whereas those doing the bullying may go on to engage in more serious antisocial behaviors. Some kids are so traumatized by being bullied, that they contemplate suicide. Bullies often have been the victims of bullying or other mistreatment themselves” said Ross Ellis, Love Our Children USA Founder and Chief Executive Officer. This campaign’s key purpose is to educate those kids who are being bullied and those who are bullying, that there are choices for them to get help.
Bullying can be so painful and clearly has played a role in school shootings across the country. While boys are more physical, girls use weapons, exclusion, slander, rumors and gossip.
And cyberbullying is on the rise. This social online cruelty is used in the forms of e-mail, cell phone; pager text messages, instant messaging, defamatory personal Web sites, and defamatory online personal polling Web sites, deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior, and is used by an individual or group — intended to harm others – especially amongst our youth. While most kids use the Internet for friendly interactions, more and more kids are using these communication tools to antagonize, terrorize and intimidate others.
Add that to the hazing going on in high schools and the kids who bring guns to school and our kids are in even more danger of emotional and physical harm.
Bullying Statistics
• 1 out of 4 kids is Bullied.
• 1 out of 5 kids admits to being a bully, or doing some “Bullying.”
• 282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month.
• More youth violence occurs on school grounds as opposed to on the way to school.
• 1/3 of students surveyed said they heard another student threaten to kill someone.
• As many as 160,000 students may stay home on any given day because they’re afraid of their bullies due to the pain of bullying.
Cyberbullying Statistics
• 42% of kids have been bullied while online. 1 in 4 have had it happen more than once.
• 35% of kids have been threatened online. Nearly 1 in 5 have had it happen more than once.
• 21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mail or other messages.
• 58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online.
Hazing Statistics
• 1.5 million high school students are hazed each year
• 91% of all H.S. students belong to at least one group, and half of them, 48% report being subjected to hazing activities.
• 43% were subjected to humiliating activities and 30% performed potentially illegal acts as part of their initiation
All of this has everyone worried. Not just the kids on its receiving end, but the parents, teachers and others who may not understand how extreme bullying can get. Love Our Children USA is working aggressively to prevent these issues and to help the kids and teens affected by it.
Ellis said “STOMP Out Bullying brings awareness and educates kids, parents and schools about the issue. It offers hope for every kid who experiences the harmful effects of bullying and teaches parents to keep open communication with their children and to look for signs. It also educates school administrators across the country, who have swept this issue under the rug for too long.”
She also added, “Bullying is a form of child abuse and bullies are very likely to grow up as adults who abuse children. By educating our children, we can stop the bullying BEFORE it ever starts. We are grateful to the entertainment industry and with their help we can keep kids safe across the country.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss Lead 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees
9/23/09, 8:00 am EST
The ballot for next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis are up for nomination alongside the Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Chantels, the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release, so all the candidates released their first single no later than 1984. LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both made the ballot on their first year of eligibility.
This is Kiss’ first time on the ballot, and their wait for a nod has frustrated the band and its army of fans. “There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not Kiss,” Gene Simmons said last year. “I believe we have more gold records in America than any other group, but it’s OK.” The Stooges made an appearance at the induction ceremony just two years ago, as Iggy Pop and Co. performed a pair of Madonna songs when the Queen of Pop joined the Hall.
If LL Cool J gets inducted he will be the third hip-hop act to get into the Hall, after Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (Class of ‘07) and Run-DMC (Clas of ‘08). “I don’t even think I can describe it. In terms of music, it’s probably the happiest moment for me since I got my break,” LL Cool J tells Rolling Stone. “My break was the moment I was called by Rick Rubin and he said, ‘Come down, let’s make some records.’ Now they are nominating me for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it makes me feel like it mattered a little bit. It’s cool. It’s a great feeling.” Watch LL Cool J react to his Rock Hall nomination below.
The final list of inductees — decided by the 500 voters receiving ballots — will be announced in January and the ceremony will once again be held at New York’s Waldorf Astoria on March 15th, 2010. On October 29th and 30th the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will celebrate its 25th anniversary with two concerts at Madison Square Garden that will feature performances by U2, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Metallica, Simon & Garfunkel and many more.

Gay men ‘can be identified by their Facebook friends’
Homosexual men can be identified just by looking at their Facebook friends, according to unpublished research by two students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
By Matthew Moore
Published: 10:45AM BST 21 Sep 2009
The study found that it was possible to predict men’s sexual orientation by analysing the gender and sexuality of their contacts on the social networking site – even if the rest of the information on their profile is set to private.
The small-scale survey indicates that people who believe they have discreet online habits may still be making personal information about themselves public.
As part of the study the researchers Carter Jernigan and Behram Mistree scanned the Facebook friends of more than 1,500 fellow students who indicated their sexual orientation – straight, gay or bisexual – on their profiles.
This analysis revealed that homosexual men had proportionally more gay friends than straight men, allowing the students to devise a computer programme to predict the sexual orientation of other Facebook users based solely on the sexualities of their friends.
They ran this programme on 10 men who were known to be homosexual but did not reveal this information on their profiles. In each case, the software correctly identified the men to be gay.
“When they first did it, it was absolutely striking – we said, ‘Oh my God – you can actually put some computation behind that,’ ” Hal Abelson, a MIT computer science professor, told the Boston Globe.
“That pulls the rug out from a whole policy and technology perspective that the point is to give you control over your information – because you don’t have control over your information.”
In total the researchers ran their software on 947 people who did not disclose their sexual orientation on their profiles, but it failed to accurately identify lesbians or bisexuals of either gender.
Jernigan and Mistree say they are attempting to get their study, titled Gaydar, published in a scientific journal.

CASH FOR CANDY
Local Dentist Takes a Stand Against Sweets this Halloween
Nashville, TN
One area dentist is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can
bring their excess candy to The Aesthetic Dental Center in Nashville, TN and receive $1 per pound. Ann K Tucker, DDS is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking
candy.
“Ditch the candy, that’s what we’re saying. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative
measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost,” says Ann K Tucker, DDS from The Aesthetic Dental Center. “Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.
Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which
means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children’s
teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
Candy will be collected at The Aesthetic Dental Center the Monday following Halloweener from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The candy must be unopened. Please no bites. It will then be shipped to our troops overseas as a special treat for them!
Ann K Tucker, DDS emphasizes general family dental care as well as cosmetic procedures. She is available to provide more information at (615) 646-2944, or visit The Aesthetic Dental Center on-line at www.drannktucker.com

Mister D: Below is a fundraising letter Jude Jones sent out to raise money for a Happy Birthday Bette fundraiser. However, all it did was bash me. Why this would be of interest to his followers, many who don’t know him, I don’t know. I can take apart this letter piece by piece as I always can do when he goes up against me because truth always wins out in the end. Please don’t make me put up your recent photo that a best friend of yours sent me again. As people will see, nobody would want to stalk you. They might want to keep an eye on you and what you say, but that’s it. I’ve been told he can be very dramatic by, you guessed it, some of his friends:
Jude Jones sent a message to the members of HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTE MIDLER!!!
——————–
Subject: Hello Everbody!
Just some facts I feel you should know, as I have been publicly attacked by the webmaster of an unofficial Bette Midler fan site, who wants to appropriate my work with this fundraiser:
* I have not written any nasty notes to him, or any notes to him recently.
* I do not waste my time or energy feuding with people.
* I have been doing this fundraiser for NYRP to honor Miss M for over 10 years.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Don’t involve yourself in a shameful public display of bad behavior. He and I had minor differences many years ago. When he couldn’t get a rise out of me, he attacked my Bette friends. That made our differences major. So, I told him I don’t like him, I don’t trust him, and I don’t want anything to do with him (in those words.) Since then, he has been harassing me and stalking me. I have had to block him on many sites, such as Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. IT’S CREEPY!
* My friends do not communicate with him regarding me. He sometimes tries to get them to send me messages, just another form of his stalking me. The last time he wrote me directly, he wanted to make up with me so that I could help him work on his board. At the same time he was calling me names on his board. It makes no sense.
I guess this is just something one as famous as Bette has to deal with, but I’m not famous and can’t figure out why he won’t let me be. This attempt to appropriate my fundraiser would seem to be his latest effort to stir things up again. Maybe he’s trying to generate hits to his site???
* He and his behavior are well know in the Bette community and by Bette’s people. He feeds on any type of attention, negative or positive. It’s sad, but it’s obvious that he is not “all there”.
So, PLEASE, don’t get in the midst of it. He should be left to his passive aggressive behavior and grandiose delusions. If he wants to do a fundraiser for NYRP, and can’t think of something new, well, maybe he’ll raise a couple of bucks, too. But it’s not a competition. Nor a feud.
It’s a shame he would so publicly do something that reflects so poorly on Bette and her fans.
Nuf sed – thanx 4 listening…
Jude
